Russia has begun to remove MiG-29 multi-role fighter jets from storage at air bases. This was reported by analysts from MilitaryAviationInUa based on fresh satellite images. Satellite images released on October 15 show MiG-29s being transported from a military airfield near the Russian city of Millerovo.

MiG-29 fighters were stationed at this airfield in the Rostov region for a long time. From 2009 to 2014, this airfield was not operated. On January 1, 2014, the 31st Fighter Aviation Regiment was re-established.

Development of the upgraded MiG-29SMT fighter jet began at the MiG enterprise in early 1997. The fighter received a new complex of onboard equipment, an expanded range of weapons, and an increased flight range.

In 2014, the Ministry of Defense of Russia ordered 16 single-seat MiG-29SMT(R) fighters of new construction. Aircraft production under this contract is carried out by the “MyG” enterprise.
